    Glasgow, Ireland

This is a great hotel right on the Buda side of the Danube. All rooms have fantastic views over the river to the Parliament and the Chain Bridge. The rooms are a good size and are spotlessly clean with maid service every day. The bathroom is small but has a bath and great power shower along with a hairdryer and accessories. The breakfast is served in the room that later doubles as the bar. It is served by the pleasant and helpful staff and there is a full breakfast buffet along with cooked eggs in any form that you like. The staff at reception were friendly and always willing to assist with information, advice or recommendations and are on hand to book restaurants taxi etc On that front the hotel is close to a number of local bars and restaurants and one restaurant we would highly recommend is only a block away don't miss the Carne Di Hall for some great food and service. All in a great hotel for a visit to a beautiful city. Stayed November 2014, travelled as a couple

  • 2014-11-25 15:34:37 - Rooms with the best view in Budapest

    Dorset, United Kingdom

After 4 nights B & B at the Hotel Victoria, we feel so lucky in having chosen to stay there. Budapest is a wonderful city anyway, but the location, the service and the absolutely stunning view from our room taking in the Parliament Building right around to the Chain Bridge (UNESCO World Heritage Site) looking so magical when lit at night, was just brilliant, and we spent ages just looking at it all and the riverboats going by. Most of the the big hotels are on the Pest side and we thought our view far superior to theirs, if indeed they had one at all. Pest is the older, historic and quieter side and the Victoria is just at the foot of the hill with all the beautiful old buildings on it. Even in November it was captivating - and there were no queues! Close by were a variety of restaurants, and the heart of Pest is only 10 minutes walk over the bridge or a short ride on the transport system - which works really well too and is totally free if you are over 65 and from the UK or other EU country. Another lovely thing about this hotel are its wonderful suite of rooms at the back, renovated in their original style, where afternoon tea is offered every day 4-5pm to the accompaniment of the strains of the type of music played by the original owner, a violinist called Hubay. The rooms and original fittings, including porcelain stoves, are extremely fine, and I don't know whether it was just because we were footsore after a hard day's sightseeing or whether the local water and the silver samovar combined just made an excellent cuppa, but it was a really pleasant addition to the day. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed ourselves. The tea hour was especially nice in the hotel's elegant sitting area up the back stairs. Excellent breakfast, location, price make this a keeper. The modern room design was appreciated. Stayed October 2014, travelled as a couple

    Taunton, United Kingdom

Best view in the city. Its on the Danube with views of Parliament and the major bridges. Pay for a river view, so worth it. Perfect location for exploring. Tourist bus,Tram and Metro within 400yds. Many restaurants inside 10min walk. Rooms; modern, clean and roomy with panoramic windows. Excellent breakfast. Wonderful, friendly staff, all eager to help. "Budapest Sightseeing" hop on hop off bus tour, includes a boat trip and free cycle hire on Margaret Island. Great value. Top Tip. Get the minibus from the airport to your hotel. It costs about £6.50 each way. Buy a return ticket and ask hotel reception to arrange the return trip. Easiest, cheapest way to do it.

  • 2014-11-05 08:32:02 - Excellent Hotel and Fantastic View

    Birmingham, United Kingdom

I had originally booked a different hotel for our stay in Budapest but after reading the reviews online I switched our booking to this one and I am so pleased that we did. We were on the 9th Floor so we had an excellent view of the Danube, Parliament, the bridges and Pest. We also had a balcony. We booked the boat trip one night but didn't really need to bother as we could have this excellent view everyday from our room. The Hotel is ideally placed and we never once used any public transport and chose to walk everywhere - although by day 4 after walking 8/9 hours a day I think we were ready to collapse! I was pleased that we didn't stay in the Castle District at the top of the hill as we did that journey by steps around 8 times so this Hotel was ideal where it was placed. Also, round the corner is a 24 hour convenience shop so we brought wine and beer from here for our room which was cheaper than the mini bar. The staff were great and the fresh cooked eggs in the morning were excellent. I had read on the reviews about queuing at breakfast but this only happened to us one day and we had a 5 minute wait. This was at around 9.15am but when we went earlier in the morning the other days we didn't have to wait. We did have the afternoon tea on our first day which was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this Hotel.

  • 2014-11-05 08:30:25 - Great place to stay

    Saffron Walden, United Kingdom

My first time in Budapest so being able to have a great view of the Danube from our room was a real bonus. The daytime view was great, at night it was stunning. The hotel is well situated for exploring the Buda side and just a few minute walk from the Chain Bridge giving access to the Pest side. Trams stop a few meters away from the hotel which allows some routes to be taken without having to walk. Tickets can be brought from a machine just a few minutes walk past the hotel towards Margaret Bridge. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, stored our bags on our arrival and departure day and gave plenty of helpful advice. Breakfast was plentiful and a good variety of food, the toaster needs replacing though as it only works on one side! The room was large, very clean, and has loads of storage space. The safe was easy to use as was the air con. The bed was very comfortable, although if you like soft mattresses might not be to your liking. The bathroom was clean and spacious and the power shower very refreshing. My only minor complaint concerns the bath towels which are smaller than normal and very thin indeed. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. Stayed October 2014, travelled with friends

  • 2014-11-05 08:26:13 - Amazing view, great staff

All of the rooms in this small hotel face the Danube. We loved looking across to the Parliament building, especially at night when it is lit--or looking the other direction to the Chain Bridge, also lit at night. The room was large, comfortably furnished, immaculately clean. The large wardrobe gave us ample room for clothing and luggage for our 4-day stay. The breakfast buffet offered lots of options, including eggs cooked to order. They offer afternoon tea in the White Music Hall in the attached Hubay Palace--an interesting peek at what this row of townhouses were like in another era. The staff were friendly and helpful--recommending an excellent restaurant a few blocks away (Kacsa Restaurant) and calling a cab for the day of departure. We love to walk, so we liked being on the Buda side--we explored the Vizivaros neighborhood and it made us walk across the Chain Bridge each day, giving us a daily connection to the river. Northern California, United States of America

The Victoria in Budapest isn't a big hotel. It has only 27 rooms (all with gorgeous, Danube-facing views). We weren't expecting such great service when our flight from London arrived four hours late--meaning that we arrived at 3:30 a.m.. The night manager had been checking our flight status and was waiting for us in the lobby when our taxi pulled up. He unlocked the front door, greeted us warmly (not grudgingly or angrily for making him stay up), and signed us in. Then he re-locked the front door, turned out the lobby lights, and presumably went to bed. The room was immaculate, modern, tasteful, and comfortable. The views were gasp-worthy; it's the same view you see on Budapest brochures--the Danube with Parliament. Awesome. The tram runs right in front of the hotel, and it takes you everywhere, including across the river to the Pest side. It's immensely convenient. Don't hesitate to book the Hotel Victoria. It's truly a gem.
